I have over 20 years of experience selecting the finest children's material available for the readers of Plays, the Drama Magazine for Young People. I work closely with playwrights to help develop their ideas into entertaining plays that make the pages of this magazine come alive with humor, drama, and emotion; plays that share stories about friendship, honesty, respect for diversity, and convey messages that will inspire, encourage, and support young people. I have also attended countless children's performances, and have witnessed the often magical effect a play can have on children. Whether it's performed in a backyard or playground, a school or professional theatre, a play performed live can hold children's attention, spark their imaginations, and boost their creativity in ways no other medium can. After a few of my own backyard performances as a child, and onstage and backstage participation in high school plays, my love for the theatre blossomed during my college days at Tufts University, home of the Arena Theatre, one of the country's oldest theatres-in-the-round. Now I enjoy as often as I can as many amateur and professional theatre performances as possible - including shows performed by my daughter and her friends in our backyard. |
